Hanging Alarm Clock

Hanging Alarm Clock That Actually Makes You Get Up

This has got to be the best alarm clock design I've ever seen. The alarm itself is a little glowing ball that hangs from your roof. When it goes off you can reach up and tap the snooze and it'll go off. However (here's the cool part) everytime you hit snooze button it climbs higher and higher till you actually have to stand up to turn it off. The result...you're up and awake. It also include a radio and will function as a hanging light. Right now it is still a concept product but you can view a clip of it in action at its site. Unfortunately you can't buy it just yet.

Cell Phone for Dogs

Cell Phone For Dogs: Hey Princess, Where You At?

We know you've been dying for a way to buzz your dog and ask him, "Who's a good boy? Who's a good boy?" Well, thank your lucky stars, because PetMobility has finally released a cell phone for dogs. That's right, it's a cell phone that mounts on a collar. You call it and your dog can hear you through the speaker. He'll probably be permanently scarred by the voices coming from his collar, but that's okay, because there's also a camera on the phone so you can see exactly what he's doing. If that's something you'd like to see. I know I wouldn't.

Thanks to Cap'n Oats for the pointer.

Skype Mouse Phone

Sony VN-CX1 Skype Mouse Phone

Speaking of Skype phones, this practical approach from Sony lets you convert your mouse into your Skype phone with a single flip. You would think that this means if you have to use the mouse while you're on the phone you're screwed, but apparently it works like a speakerphone when opened. The VN-CX1 "mouse-a-phone" comes in red, blue, black, silver, and "Exorcist green pea soup" green. (sheesh that really is one ugly green.)

Animated Buddy--Skype

Verballs, the Skype Handsfree Speakerphone Animated Buddy

Verballs are cute USB handsfree speakerphones that alert you when you have an incoming Skype call, and then proceed to sync their movements with what the caller is saying. (I can only imagine the fun you could have with a USB hub, a dozen or so Verballs, and a couple of USB Kitty Alarms thrown in for good measure.)

INSECT TOY

Tyco Radio-Controlled N.S.E.C.T. Insect NSECT

Last year around this time Tyco released the Shell Shocker, a whirling dervish of a bio beast that could transforn from a ball to a wicked fanblade of death. This year Tyco has released the NSECT, which comes armed with six tactical surface-to-air foam missles that can be fired one at a time or in a single barrage. Working claws and light-up eyes round out the ho-hum features, apparently the selling point of the N.S.E.C.T. is his incredible speed. I'll either break down and get one to review, or see if I can find a video of this new bio-bug in action. Unless he runs as fast at the Shell Shocker my opinion is that there's nothing new to see here, been there done that, move along please

TAMAGOTCHI

The Heir of Tamagotchi

Do you remember the little virtual pet Tamagotchi? When people used to wake up in the middle of the night and feed the little baby. This is all in the past. Now we have new generations of these kinds of pets. They don't need to be fed or taken care of, they just need your friendship and a little attention.
The Nabaztag Wi-Fi Smart Rabbit is one of these pets. This is the new generation of toys that help. The bunny is a multifunctional pet, which connects to a computer via Wi-Fi and can do a lot of things, on which you always have spent a lot of time yourself.
This gadget will read your RSS feeds (just show it from where), will forecast the weather or play an MP3 song. Like an old cuckoo clock it will announce the time on top of every hour. If you need some tai chi lessons, it will provide you with the necessary knowledge. If you'd like to know how was this week of living together with the Wi-Fi bunny, it will tell you whether the week was good, worth thinking of, or is one of those, which should be really fast forgotten. Such week recaps are made at the end of each week.
If you are sitting in front of your PC waiting for an e-mail, your virtual pet can easily do this for you: it will announce when an e-mail comes or a friend joins the GoogleTalk.
When there's no one to wake you up in the morning the funky bunny will do it gladly, you just choose your favorite MP3 track and tell the time and this track will be the first thing you hear in the morning. The Nabaztag can also send you to bed, saying some sleepy good night wishes and go to bed itself.
Sometimes the bunny will want to have time for itself – all you will notice will be the changing belly color and the moving ear (because all bunnies move their ears).
In case you are alone and there's no one to talk to in the evening, you might get you one of these gadgets, but better find yourself a girlfriend and don't spend so much time with a roborabbit.

Mouse-less mouse pad

Mouse-less mouse pad

A new kind of mouse pad, developed by UK defence company Qinetiq, needs no mouse at all. Instead, it monitors the movement of a human hand waved just above its surface.

The pad has a T-shaped array of infrared emitters and sensors, placed together in closely spaced pairs. Each emitter produces uniquely coded pulses so only its paired sensor can "see" the light as it is reflected by a hand moving above.

Simple hand motions – left, right, forwards and backwards – are detected by monitoring which sensor pairs are excited.

But complex hand gestures, such as moving the hand rapidly in a circle, could be stored on a computer and associated with personalised commands. For example, the machine may know that a rapid circle means "Save all work and shut down – it's time to go home!"

The pad should also be inexpensive, Qinetiq says, because infrared diodes are already manufactured by the million for remote control units. And, if the owner gets tired of waving their hand, the pad can still be used with a convention mouse.

Future Wireless Headphones

Future Wireless Headphones to Transmit Music Through Your Body

Wireless headphones are great in theory, but in practice they tend to be bulky and not really worth the snipping of wires. The problem is that you need to cram a Bluetooth receiver into something that's supposed to comfortably rest on your ears, which isn't that easy to do.

Apparently Sony realizes this, so they're working on a technology to send music signals directly through your body. Because the signal is sent through a tinny electrostatic charge, they can only fit 48 kbps into the transmission without it becoming a painful experience. Somehow I think that some audiophiles would love to brag about being able to withstand the pain of transmission to get hott 320 kbps quality listening, but who knows if Sony will be up for marketing to the masochists.
